What is yande.re?
Yandere is a word derived from the Japanese words “yanderu” which means “to be sick” and “deredere” which means “to be lovestruck”. It is often used in anime to describe a character who is devoted to their love interest at an extreme level.
Typically, yanderes start out very sweet and caring before going off the deep end and becoming violent or psychotic. This can happen either when they’re in a dangerous situation or simply for no reason.
These characters often have a history of trauma or mental instability, and are prone to snapping at a moment’s notice. They might have a family member they’re grieving over or suffered some sort of loss as a child, and it has left them feeling unworthy of the love their loved one feels for them.
They can be very manipulative, and are willing to use threats or violence behind the scenes to get what they want from their loved one without them realising it. This can include stalking their loved one and removing people from their life, like bosses or friends, so they can be alone with them.
Does yande.re work?
Yanderes are a type of character that usually start out nice and lovable before transforming into something quite scary. They have a tendency to go all psycho and murderous at the slightest provocation, usually in the name of their love interest.
This is often done by eliminating all the people who could get in their way, whether that be bosses, friends or pets. This includes the more obvious enemies, but also anyone who might challenge their devotion, be it through a good ole fashioned threat or some other form of manipulation.
They may even attempt to turn their love interest into a yandere themselves, albeit in a more palatable manner that is, by influencing the thoughts and feelings of their sweetheart. However, this is only a temporary change and does not reflect their true love type. In fact, it might only make their love interest want to run away or commit suicide in the end.
Is yande.re legit?
If you’ve ever watched a moe anime, you probably know that there are characters who are called Yanderes. These are people who start out as sweet and loving, but then go off the deep end.
They tend to be psychotic and prone to violent behavior. They’re also known to have a few signature weapons that they use to get their way.

Regardless of your yandere’s intentions, you should never go into a dating or relationship with one with any expectation of safety. This is especially true if you’re a woman, who can often go through uncontrollable mood swings.
It’s no secret that yanderes are murderous and they can be dangerous to date, but there are still ways to keep yourself safe from their mischievous ways. Some of the more practical safety measures include keeping your yandere on a low-key schedule and keeping an eye out for them when they’re alone.
